CCB Cracks Down on Job Scam, Fraudster Ordered to Compensate Victim”

The CCB (Central Crime Branch) is one of the special police teams that investigate when white-collar criminals trick common people out of large sums of money by promising them jobs.

 

In 2010, a person named Muralitharan from Tirumangalam, Madurai, took 22 lakhs and 75 thousand rupees from Velammal, who lives in Avadi. Muralitharan claimed he could secure a government job for Velammal’s daughter-in-law. Later, when Velammal asked for proof of the job, Muralitharan lied to her. Velammal realized that Muralitharan was cheating her and reported the incident to the police. The Central Crime Branch handled the complaint and arrested Muralitharan.

 

This case went to court in Poonamalle, and Magistrate Stalin, ordered that accused Muralitharan had to pay Velammal 33 lakhs and 55 thousand rupees. He also sentenced Muralitharan to three years in jail and a fine of ten thousand rupees.
