“Woman’s Rights Upheld: Chennai Judge Sentences Offender to Jail and Fine”

 

 

Judge D. H. Mohammad Farooq at the District Women’s Court in Alli Kulan, Chennai, sentenced a person to one year’s imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,500 and ordered him to pay Rs 10,000 of the fine to the woman, for using offensive language and assaulting a woman who ran a street business under the influence of alcohol.

Last February, Diamond Babu, a resident of Puthur area in Ashok Nagar engaged in a verbal dispute with a woman running a chicken pakoda stall on the Third Avenue footpath in Ashok Nagar, Chennai and he used offensive language to insult her and pulled her down further he smashed the properties used by her in the chicken pakoda stall .This prompted the woman to complain to the local police station in Ashok Nagar, who arrested the accused and remanded him in custody, and subsequently, when the case came up for trial, Justice D. H. Mohamad Farook awarded one year imprisonment and a fine of 10,500 rupees to the accused.
